TOP 5 SKILLS TO HAVE IN 2023

2023 is going to be a year filled with seismic shifts in the way business is conducted.

The launch of ChatGPT alone is changing the game for countless industries and it has only been around for slightly over a month. Furthermore, economic conditions are increasingly difficult to navigate and it has been anything but smooth for the global marketplace as it opens back up amidst unprecedented supply shortages and rampant inflation.

Therefore, in order to conduct an honest evaluation of the top entrepreneurial opportunities that exist in the current landscape, I’m going to look for skills that meet the following qualifications:

  • Can’t be disrupted by robots/AI (at least any time soon)

  • Demand outpaces supply

  • Are part of or are adjacent to growing industries

  • Can be learned and honed without going to school (a total waste of money in 99% of instances)

Here are my top 5 skills to have in 2023:

1 - Video Editing

Despite its obvious nature, the ability to edit video optimized for use on YouTube and TikTok is a skill that is still in very high demand. If I was 18, I would lock myself in a room and study the best performing viral videos and note the commonalities. Then I’d take some YouTube classes on video editing.

Believe it or not, finding people with this particular skill set is no easy feat. I recently met a 24-year old who started an agency to fill this void. Despite being less than a year old, this agency is now billing over $2 million annually at a 70% net profit margin to the owner.

2 - Sales

Being good at sales is an evergreen skill set, because it’s relevant for every industry/product/service. The good news is that there are countless resources available to learn phone and in-person sales. My recommendation would be to read about the Sandler Selling System before digging in on some of the best sales gurus (I recommend following Jeremy Miner, Jeffrey Gitomer, and Tibor Shanto) and their loads of free online content.

As always, the best way to learn about sales is to just start doing it. Whether that means launching your own agency and selling clients or even cutting your teeth on a telesales job, the trick is to just start.

3 - Content Strategy

The strategy behind how and what content you create can be as important as the content itself.

Begin by studying content growth and virality. For instance, look at all the top wellness accounts on twitter and study their top performing tweets. Build a spreadsheet tracking all the different elements of these tweets - topic, length, day, time, calls to action - and look for trends. Do this repeatedly for different topics and different platforms.

Being an expert on what works to organically grow a social following is priceless. It is a skill set that you can use to build your own agency, grow your own business, or even to build your own personal brand.

4 - Project Management

In a world of specialists, be the person that knows how to get shit done. Be the person that knows how to build something out of nothing through proper planning and delegation.

This is the area where I’ve always excelled - when people come to me with ideas and problems, I can cut right through all the bs in order to figure out exactly what needs to happen to bring that idea to market.

Unlike the other skills I’ve mentioned on this list, I don’t have any good resource recommendations outside of directly reaching out to me :)

Tell me what you’re trying to do. My advice is free and I will make the time for you.

5 - Overseas Recruiting and Organizational Strategy

I have built 5 different businesses wherein 80% or more of the employees were overseas. It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in - data entry, customer service, cold outreach, graphic design, and even accounting can all be performed at a high level by remote international workers.

At this point, I see this skill set as being necessary in order to maintain a competitive advantage in just about any market. Be sure to check out YouTube and Onlinejobs.ph if you don’t know where to start.
